Going Green
Consume Less, Recycle More
According to the National Solid Wastes Management Association, landfills across the country are reporting decreases of 15 to 30 percent in the amount of trash received. The reduction in waste is good for the environment because even modern landfills can leak, enabling pollutants to seep into groundwater. While this decrease in the amount of trash is attributed to the economic down turn, the implication is that CHOOSING to consume less is environmentally beneficial.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency the breakdown of municipal solid waste is as follows:
paper and paperboard: 32.7%.
yard trimmings: 12.8%.
food scraps: 12.5%.
plastics: 12.1%.
metals: 8.2%.
rubber, leather and textiles: 7.6%.
wood: 5.6%.
glass: 5.3%.
miscellaneous: 3.2%.
Many of the items on the above list can be recycled. Check your personal habits and CHOOSE to recycle more!
