Where People Care
|
Westminster's Lenten theme is based on a book by Max Lucado entitled Fearless: Imagine Your Life Without Fear.
Join us in worship, in a Small Group or study on your own using the weekly questions below.
You are invited to to live a FEARLESS life. Just imagine your life without fear. ![]() It’s not too late to get in a small group study on living fearlessly, read the book, listen to the messages each Sunday
or downloading the weekly questions by clicking on the week you are interested in. Fear is the first choice of our nature. Faith is the promise of our Creator. Our world has lots of frightening things in it. Wars and rumors of wars, financial pains and hardships, the facing of our own mortality and the simple, sometimes terrible worry that it will never work. ![]() All hands were hard at work at Westminster on Thursday morning, as third through eighth grade Student Council representatives from Forest Ridge Academy (FRA) in Schererville joined the Loaves & Fishes Ministry homeless cooking team. FRA children make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, trail mix and cookies for the folks at the City Rescue Mission each month. The children visited Westminster to learn first-hand how 1,200 monthly meals are prepared and delivered to the shelter. The trip became personal as they delivered and served the noon meal at the Mission. Children worked with enthusiasm and care through out the morning preparing for their acts of service. Children had a new experience to share with their classmates back at the school where community service is an important part of the curriculum. One enthusiastic child wants to change the world enough to make shelters unnecessary when he grows up!
Once the sandwiches were finished, children made cards to tuck inside hand-made hats headed for AIDS orphans in Swaziland in Africa. This was in conjunction with the Heart for Africa "Beanie Project". Needle workers at Westminster and beyond have been making children's hats, one for each of the 15,000 AIDS orphans. Hats will be distributed in July 2010 to keep heads warm and, more importantly to let the children know that people all over the world care, pray and have hope for them!
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE HAITIAN PEOPLE AND THEIR LOVED ONESIn response to the Haiti tragedy, Westminster Presbyterian Church is collecting donations to be distributed to select
organizations that are currently providing immediate relief. All donations will be distributed to these organizations: The International Red Cross, the World Food Program, Doctors Without Borders and the Yéle Haiti Foundation. All of
these organizations were active in Haiti before the earthquake and have well established networks within the country to address the basic needs of the Haitian people. Information about each of these organizations is included below. Please help Haiti and the Haitian people in this time of urgent need. Checks may be made payable to “Westminster Presbyterian Church” with a note “Haitian Disaster Relief Fund”
in the memo section. You may mail your donation to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 8955 Columbia Avenue, Munster, IN46321. Westminster will be doing a Soles for Souls collection the week of April 18-25.
