Chorale Rehearsals are Thursdays from 7:30-9p
This adult choir includes men and women of a variety of ages who wish to commit themselves to an hour and a half weekly rehearsal and a Sunday morning half hour rehearsal before the 9:00a worship time. These people sing 4-part or 8-part music that requires a concentrated effort from everyone. We meet on Thursdays from
7:30-9p with a social time following. It is a friendly and outgoing group and an accomplished musical one!
Beginning Handbells
Adults and youth, alike, learn the art of ringing bells.
Small Ensembles
We regularly recruit instrumental and vocal performers for ensemble performance. We are blessed with high school students who are accomplished musicians.
A Great Season for the Joyful Strains
Twenty children have enjoyed our Wednesday evening choir experience this year. Our choir nights begin with a few simple songs accompanied by auto harp, some silly warm-up exercises, and a prayer. Then we seriously work on learning anthems and two hymns each month. Sometimes the children take turns playing the Orff instruments to accompany our singing. Occasionally, we act out a Biblical story set to music. And then there are games . . . for about 15 minutes or so! Back to the music room, we listen to one another play a piano piece or share something special with the others.
In March we learned and performed the musical: Rescue in the Night, complete with lions, a king, advisors, heralds and speaking chorus.
On Wednesday evening, April 29, seven children, new to choir this year, received a personal hymnbook. The others already have hymnbooks from former years and so each were given a CD of folk songs chosen by Alice Parker.
The kids are crazy about our helpers: Mary Watkins, mother of a choir member, and Taylor Roy, high school piano student of Verdeen’s. I personally am rejuvenated every Wednesday just by being with the children!
