American Cancer Society's First Annual Relay for Life-
CROP WALK

Walkers from churches around Lake County gathered at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Highland and walked to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Munster help stamp out Hunger. The CROP Walk is not to provide a hand out, but a helping hand up! It is giving people a sense of purpose, dignity and the ability to help and give back to their families and communities. In light of the tornado and flood devastation our own communities suffered last year – this event is a wonderful testament to the spirit and generosity of the Lake County region.
Two local agencies, Greater Hammond Community Services and Community Care Cupboard in Crown Point, will benefit directly from walk proceeds. They will split 25% of all money raised. The remaining 75% goes to Church World Services which provides resources and support internationally and domestically.
Since Westminster was the turn-around and rest stop, I walked the opposite direction. Along the 4+ mile walk Presbyterians were earnestly doing their part. Groups from First Presbyterian Church – Hammond and Christ Presbyterian Church -Winfield were among the groups I met. All had smiles on their faces and were enjoying the sunny but cool fresh air.
CROP Hunger Walks help children and families worldwide -- and right here in the U.S. Each year some two million CROP walkers, volunteers, and sponsors put their hearts and soles to the pavement, raising over $16 million annually. Thanks for supporting our walkers!
